What should you expect on the day of the driving licence test?

On the day of your driving licence test, you will be required to complete a practical driving assessment. This is done to evaluate your real-world driving skills and understanding of traffic rules.

The test can differ based on the type of vehicle, as explained below:

  • If you are taking the two-wheeler

Once you reach the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for your driving test, you will be asked to check in at the registration desk. You will then be asked to move to the test area with your vehicle, where you will have to wait for your turn. Some RTOs have automated test tracks, in which case signal lights may guide you through the process. When the system verifies your ID, the light will show red. Once it turns green, you are cleared to start your test. You can drive your two-wheeler across the ‘Start’ line to begin your test.

Where automated systems are in place, the tracks may have sensors to automatically monitor your performance. If you disturb the setup or make an error, your marks will be deducted. Your final result will depend on how many violations you make and how long you take to complete the test. A video recording of your test will also be made and kept in the RTO’s records.

  • If you are taking the Light Motor Vehicle (Car) test

The car driving test is quite different from the two-wheeler test. Once you have checked in at the registration desk, you will be directed to the test area. During your assessment, the examiner will observe several aspects of your driving.

First, you will be expected to follow basic road rules. This can include obeying traffic signals, wearing your seatbelt, etc. You will then likely be tested on your ability to parallel park with control and accuracy. You may also need to drive forward along a track shaped like the number 8 and drive uphill on an inclined track. Finally, you may be asked to reverse your car along an S-shaped track.

The specific layout and components of the test may vary across RTOs.

How can you check your driving licence test results online?

After taking your driving test, you can easily check the status of your results online. Just visit the official website (https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/) and follow the on-screen instructions to check the results.

Conclusion

Now that you know how to register for your driving licence test online, you can go ahead and start the process. However, keep in mind that while the process remains more or less uniform across the country, there can be some differences from state to state. Hence, it is advised to check the specific requirements at your local RTO. You must also make sure to be well-prepared on the day of the test.
